The story behind UpTheMind
An AI learning platform born in a helicopter cockpit — built by someone who learns differently, for everyone who learns differently.
How it started
Hi, I'm Josef Boudnik — a helicopter pilot, a software developer, and someone who has lived with dyslexia and dysgraphia all his life.
When I decided to become a commercial helicopter pilot, I knew there would be a lot of studying ahead. I managed to get my private license, but then I hit a wall: the professional theory. Hours of reading, transcribing, and text-heavy tests — none of it worked for me.
That's when I realized the problem wasn't me. The problem is that most education is built for people who read fast and remember texts.
But I learn differently — by speaking, listening, making associations, having conversations. So I did what a software developer does: I built the tool I needed. I uploaded my aviation textbooks, let AI read the important parts aloud, asked it questions, and turned what mattered into flashcards.
It worked. And it became UpTheMind.

Our mission
Our mission is simple: to make studying work for people who learn differently. UpTheMind is inspired by the needs of people with dyslexia, but it's built for everyone — students with ADHD, language learners, and anyone who remembers what they hear better than what they read.
We believe that learning differently is not a disadvantage. With the right tools, it can be a strength — that's why our motto is: when you learn differently, you can achieve more.
"Most education is built for people who read fast and remember texts. UpTheMind is built for everyone else — and it turns out that's most of us." — Josef Boudnik, Founder
